Week 3: App Share 1
The app that I want to share is JogNog. JogNog is an app available on Google play, App Store, Amazon appstore for Android, and Windows Phone. The cost for teachers is $99.99 per teacher, per year. Administrators can also buy this app for their districts at a discounted rate. Parents can also purchase this app for $2 per month, per child. The app has 1,700 ready-to-use quizzes that are aligned to your state's standards. However, teachers have the ability to create their own quizzes. In addition to those features, I like how this app is not specific to only one subject. There are also SAT prep quizzes.
Students can use this app to compete with other student in their class, in groups within their class, or they can complete as a class against other classes. Teachers can also assign quizzes to certain students. The first thing I thought of when I heard about this feature was how good this app would work for creating differentiated instruction based on student's ability. I took the "Punctuation for Effect" quiz and I liked how I was able to earn 100 coins very quickly.
Like most apps, JogNog will not meet the need of every teacher, parent or student. However, I think this app is fun and serves the purpose of providing game-based learning with variation. For me, I think this app is simple but efficient. Portability is also a key feature. Students can access this app on their iPads, Chromebooks, or cell phones. For these reasons, I thought this app was worth sharing.

APP Share #3
The app that I want to share is Comic Strip It! With this app, you are able to build a comic strip based on the images that you have in your gallery. You can resize the image, rotate it, add captions and special effects. Then once you have created your comic strip, you can share it via social media. I chose this app to share because I think students could use this app to create a comic strip based on a lesson. For example, a lesson about the parts of speech could be made into a comic. I think this would be a fun way to get students to remember the parts of speech and how to identify them in a sentence. The best part is, these comics can be created on a PC, laptop, or phone. Unfortunately, this is an Android app. However, a similar app available for iPad or iPhone users is called Strip Designer.
